Xiaomi Australia has today announced the Xiaomi 17 Series of smartphones, which will be available in Australia in March.
The Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Ultra, and Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi are set to bring a new level in mobile photography and videography thanks to Xiaomi’s partnership with Leica.
The minimalist designs of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Leica Leitzphone are not just stylish but also offer a thin, lightweight phone, with ultra-thin bezels and a newly repositioned, smaller camera housing. The resultant device is a premium display of smartphone engineering and is available in White, Black, or Starlit Green.
The drop resistance of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra has been improved with new Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0, a high-strength fibreglass back, and an aluminium alloy frame.
The Xiaomi 17 is still thin at just 8.06mm thick and weighs just 191 grams, and is available in Venture Green, Alpine Pink, Ice Blue, and Black. It also has a redesigned camera island and is built to last with a 6M42 aluminium frame, Xiaomi Shield Glass, and IP68 certification.
The collaboration between Leica and Xiaomi brings Leica’s image capture design to a modern smartphone. The Leitzphone features a durable aluminium-alloy body with a stunning nickel-anodised finish. The interface has been tuned by Leica to deliver imaging-focused performance for photographers of all levels.
The Leica Leitzphone features a physical Leica Camera Ring that turns, offering a real-zoom camera experience on a modern device. The images are designed to mimic traditional Leica imagery thanks to the Leica Essential Mode.
Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi feature the new 1″ LOFIC main camera sensor, a Light Fusion 1050L image sensor that increases full-well capacity and enables next-generation HDR performance.
This is paired with the Leica 200MP 75–100mm camera, featuring a 75–100mm mechanical optical zoom to deliver high image quality out to a 400mm equivalent focal length thanks to its advanced sensor technology
The Xiaomi 17 features a Light Fusion 950 image sensor, a Leica 60mm floating telephoto lens which delivers 60mm portrait photography, 5x optical-level zoom, precise 10cm macro, and 20x AI Ultra Zoom.
The selfie camera is a 50MP camera with improved autofocus at both short and long distances. This selfie camera is also capable of capturing 4K 60fps Dolby Vision video.
Those users who want even more impressive imaging results can look to the Xiaomi 17 Ultra Photography Kit Pro (also compatible with Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi) which includes a premium PU leather grip with an integrated 2,000mAh battery, a detachable shutter button and a new Fastshot mode UI.
The Xiaomi 17 Series is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Mobile Platform, allowing users to push their phones to new limits. Once that pushing is done, users will feel secure in the knowledge that the Xiaomi 17 Series can deliver up to 100W HyperCharge charging and also 100W PD-PPS charging, compatible with a wide range of chargers from various manufacturers.
The Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Leica Leitzphone powered by Xiaomi feature a 6000mAh battery with support for 90W wired HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge, while the Xiaomi 17 includes a massive 6330mAh battery with 100W wired HyperCharge and 50W wireless HyperCharge support.
The displays in the new devices are custom OLED displays with up to 3,500 nits peak brightness and an LTPO refresh rate from 1 to 120Hz.
