Xiaomi Expands AIoT Ecosystem with Watch 5 , Hybrid Tags, and Pro Buds

After their highly anticipated launch in Australia late last year, Xiaomi Australia has announced a new range of AIoT devices, expanding their connected ecosystem to include the new Xiaomi Watch 5, Xiaomi Tag and Redmi Buds 8 Pro.

The announcement comes off the back of the launch of the Xiaomi 17 series at Mobile World Congress this week, which expands their mobile phone range with improved photography in partnership with Leica.

Xiaomi Watch 5

On the wearable front, the new Xiaomi Watch 5 offers endurance and hybrid power, with a massive 930mAh silicon-carbon battery offering more density meaning longer life – which Xiaomi says can last up to 6 days of use.

The watch runs Wear OS, with Gemini on-board and access to your favourite apps including Google Wallet, Google Maps, and the full Play Store app library.

Powered by a Snapdragon W5 Gen 1 processor, the watch includes sapphire glass covering the 1.54” AMOLED display for extreme anti-scratch protection, and comes in a 316L stainless steel body.

Xiaomi has included advanced EMG (electromyography) sensors, letting you use touch-free  gesture controls to do things like shake your wrist to answer a call, or snap your fingers to start a workout.

Xiaomi Tag

In a world of Apple ‘Find my’ Air Tags, and Google’s Find Hub compatible trackers, the Xiaomi Tag bridges the gap, supporting both eco-systems.

The Xiaomi Tag features seamless cross-platform compatibility making it the perfect choice for families and mixed-ecosystem households.

The tag is small and light, weighing in at just 10g, so you can easily attach it to a keyring or slip it into a bag or purse for easy tracking. It’s also IP67 dust and water resistant so it can get wet without any dramas.

The battery lasts for up to one year, and is user-replaceable to cut-down on e-waste and let you continue using your tag.

Both the Apple Find My network and Google’s Find Hub support the cross-platform tracking protocol – giving you peace of mind that you will be notified if any unwanted trackers start travelling with you. For your own tracking, the data is secure, encrypted so only you can see the location.

Redmi Buds 8 Pro

Last, but by no means least is the Redmi Buds 8 Pro offering Flagship-grade Active Noise Cancellation (ANC).

The buds include support for ANC to combat louder environments up to 55dB including underground trains and aircraft, while still offering studio quality audio including support for Dolby Audio and LDAC Hi-Res audio.

The buds last up to 8 hours on a single charge, and come with a charging case offering a total of up to 33 hours, with an instant top up feature letting you charge the case for 5 minutes to give you up to 2 hours of playback.

Bonus Round: Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank

Xiaomi has also announced their new 5000mAh powerbank. Weighing just 98 grams, this 6mm thin powerbank can magnetically attach to your phone or Qi2 compatible device and offer wireless charging at up to 15W, and wired charging at up to 22.5W.

Availability

One thing I love about Xiaomi, is that all of these new devices are available to order from today through the Xiaomi Australia website

The Xiaomi Watch 5 is priced at $499, while the Xiaomi Tag is priced at $29.50 AUD each or  $99.50 for a four-pack – although you can get a four-pack for just $64.50 as an introductory special until the 31st of March.

The Redmi Buds 8 Pro are priced at $119 AUD, however you can get them on-special for $99.50 until the 31st of March.

Finally, the Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 15W is available in three colours: Black, SIlver and Orange. The Black and Silver are priced at $129 – but on-special for just $69.50 until March 31st, while the Orange is priced at $149 normally but is down to $75.50 until the end of March.
