Apple Sports launches in Australia – but without Aussie sports leagues

Apple Sports has launched in Australia allowing iPhone users to get real-time scores and stats as a live activity on their phone when events are running after the company expanded the app’s availabilty today to 90 more countries.

The expansion seems strongly linked to the upcoming FIFA World Cup, with all the teams listed and the group stage brackets ready to follow for supporters.

“The World Cup unites fans across the globe, making it the ideal moment to bring Apple Sports to even more users,” said Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Music, Sports, Apple TV, and Beats. “Apple Sports was designed to be fast and simple, giving fans an easy way to stay on top of scores, stats, and the action that matters most in real time.”

While there are no AFL or NRL live scores or team listings, fans of some global sports and American leagues can get all the Apple Sports action right now.

You choose sports to follow and teams to support, which then adds those teams into your real-time and upcoming event listings within Apple Sports.

It all works slick and instantly – when it really comes into action is when a game is on, so you get live updates in real-time in the iPhone dynamic island.

Well worth the download if you’re a sports fan!
