eBay Australia has dropped fees for casual sellers — clean out and clean up without any fees

Facebook Marketplace has grown in popularity in recent years, thanks to the lack of fees when selling items.  eBay Australia is looking to head off this challenge from Facebook by announcing it will no longer charge transaction fees to casual sellers listing items on eBay.

Recent research showed that one in three Australians was deterred from listing items online due to associated fees, and more than half (55%) said they would be more likely to sell online if there were no seller fees.

Over the past year, Fashion and Collectables have emerged as two of the most popular categories for listing items on eBay Australia, with Aussies looking to clean out clutter and make a few quid in the meantime.

Used sporting goods and musical instruments are also popular, showing the appeal of saving a few dollars by buying pre-loved items.

Anne-Marie Cheney, Head of Recommerce at eBay Australia, says: “Today marks a significant milestone for eBay and for millions of Australians. At a time when the cost of living continues to rise, free selling on eBay offers a powerful opportunity for people to make more out of what they already have at home, transforming pre-loved items into financial flexibility and new income potential.

Our research shows that selling fees were a major deterrent, and by removing them, we’re not just making selling easier, we’re unlocking billions in untapped value.”

If you are a “casual seller” on eBay Australia with under $25,000 in sales annually, you will no longer be charged transaction fees, making it easier and more affordable to list and sell items on eBay.

Alongside this removal of seller fees, eBay is rolling out new selling tools, including AI-powered tools and integrated shipping labels purchased on eBay.

Now is the time to clean out your closets and make a few dollars in doing so; after all, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
