After launching the Steam Controller last month, Valve has today announced pricing for the long-awaited console, with a randomised ballot put in place for customers to purchase.
The Steam Machine will be available directly through Steam which with the base console being sold with either 512GB of storage for $1,609 or with 2TB of storage for $2,109. You can also add a Steam Controller to the bundle for $119.
The ongoing uncertainty on PC parts pricing has had an effect on the Steam Machine pricing, with Valve saying
“Over the past year or so, that has changed quickly and significantly, most visibly for RAM and storage components. There are a variety of reasons, all of which are affecting hardware products everywhere. The overall effect is that our original goal for the price of Steam Machine is no longer viable. So the prices we’re sharing today reflect the state of the world for manufacturing; or, more accurately.”
The Steam Machine will go on-sale on June 30, however availability is limited. In what appears to be an attempt to stop scalpers, Valve is implementing a waitlist which will send out invites to purchase.
To sign up to the waitlist you’ll have to head to the Steam website and choose your option.
