Samsung Galaxy Unpacked announced for July 22 – new foldables and wearables incoming

Samsung have announced their next hotly anticipated Galaxy Unpacked event will take place in London on July 22.

The event will showcase both hardware and Samsung Galaxy AI, with Samsung saying the new portfolio will combine ‘intelligent capabilities with innovative form factors, the next generation of Galaxy devices are set to deliver more personal and adaptive experiences and set a new standard for the AI era.’

At the event we’re expecting to see a load of new devices, including three new foldable phones, as well as two new watches.

On the phone front, Samsung has been rumoured to be making a wider foldable phone similar to other foldables on the market which will apparently launch as the Galaxy Fold8.

The new design was recently leaked thanks to case makers, showing the familiar Samsung camera island with sensors over each other, but in a wider form-factor.

For those fans of the original, thinner, taller design of previous Galaxy Fold phones, the new Galaxy Fold8 Ultra will be right up your alley – though rumours point to faster 45W charging speeds and 5,000mAh battery.

Samsung will also unveil a new Galaxy Flip8, which rumours suggest will remain similar in design to previous iterations – also backed up by the case leaks which don’t reveal any massive design updates.

The only other information we have from Samsung about their upcoming phones are shared teasers on social media with Qualcomm, which suggests the new phones will use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 platform – though an Exynos variant could arrive.

On the wearables front, Samsung is expected to show off the new Galaxy Watch 9, as well as Galaxy Watch Ultra 2.

Not a lot is known about the Galaxy Watch9, except for rumours that Samsung will adopt the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform, ditching the Exynos W1000 chips from the last generation.

Samsung is also expected to use the new processor in the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, which thanks to a leak from Evan Blass (@evleaks) showing renders of the device, means we know a little more.

The rear of the watch shows it will have a 47mm case, with Sapphire Crystal over the display. The watch will be water resistant up to 10ATM and include GPS and LTE connectivity – though we expect a WiFi model as well.

Lastly we may see more on the Samsung Galaxy Glasses.

Samsung is supposed to reveal their first glasses running Google’s Android XR platform – though whether they’re ready now, or will launch later in the year is anybody’s guess. The rumours suggest a similar design to Meta’s Rayban glasses as shown off in a recent leak

The glasses are expected to run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon AR1 chipset, with Bluetooth and Wifi on-board for connectivity with Google Gemini AI expected to be central to the operating of the glasses.

The glasses will “see the world” through a 12MP Sony IMX681 sensor, with a 155mAh battery to power them. A touch-sensitive panel on the right arm will be used for controlling them, as well as voice control – with directional speakers in the arms feeding audio directly into your ears.

You can tune in to see what’s announced through Samsung’s YouTube channel beginning at 2 p.m. BST, 9 a.m. EDT – around 11pm AEST July 22 for those of us playing at home.

Trevor will be on the ground and have all the latest here on EFTM as soon as it’s announced.
