Months out from the release of the most anticipated and most delayed game in history and what will be the biggest entertainment release in history, a group of leakers is throwing a spanner in the works releasing actual gameplay from a reportedly leaked version of Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto Six – GTA VI.
The group, called Cyberleek seem hell bent on opposing the direction the gaming industry is heading by making claims that unless there’s a shift in direction they will release a playable version of GTA VI on the internet.
And they seem like they have the content to back their threat. Cyberleek has released several images and videos they claim are from the game and at face value, they look to be legit. In a world of computer graphics and AI video – we have to take everything with a grain of salt, but this all looks pretty legit.
The group have three clear demands, seeking:
Essentially, they’re angry that when you buy the game, you need to unlock the single-player content in the game, saying you shouldn’t have to pay twice to pay the base game as it is included in the game.
While the pre-orders and the fake single-player content claims are questionable generally, albeit noble, one of their claims I think would resonate with everyone.
Cyberleek call it “Commandment III: Thou Shalt Preserve Single-Player Content“
It calls for “Any game featuring single-player content must include an offline fallback state. When server support ends, the publisher must release a final patch that unlocks all single-player content for local, indefinite play.“
Fair call! You buy the game, and in 10 years, 20 years, you should still be able to play it even if the servers that controlled the multiplayer content are gone. You do own the game after all.
The challenge for this activist group is they are also raising money through some digital coin sale, and these crypto bro coin sales are renowned for being money making schemes fraught with concern.
It smells dodgy, but by gosh they have some collateral.
Rockstar Games appears to be chasing hard to track them down, issuing legal subpoenas to companies where the videos are being hosted to try and locate the source. The leakers claim the game leaks are now stored in servers all around the globe.
The hype is real, and frankly, the leaks are making me more interested in GTA VI – I can pressure wash my car and spray passers by? yes please!
