Cricut Unveils the Maker 5: Faster Speeds, Deeper Cuts, Compact Design

Cricut has announced their latest smart cutting machine, introducing the Cricut Maker 5, bringing support for faster, deeper cutting packed into a smaller footprint.

The Maker 5 increases the cutting depth to 3mm, a 25% increase in clearance over the Maker 4’s 2.4mm clearance and also cuts 30% faster. The deeper cutting ability will enable makers to work with materials including leather, acrylic, metal, foam core, corrugated plastic, and felt.

The machine has also been redesigned to be 30% smaller than the previous model, to fit more naturally into creative spaces in the home, yet still keeps the 12” cutting width.

To kick off the launch, the Cricut Maker 5 also comes in a new dark coloured Slate Blue option.

Ashish Arora, CEO of Cricut said

“Cricut Maker 5 is about giving people the confidence and capability to make more of what they imagine. We’re making advanced techniques like engraving more approachable and bringing more tools and materials into one connected experience, empowering people to turn more of their ideas into meaningful, personalised things they can make themselves.”

The Maker 5 will work seamlessly with Cricut’s Design Space software with the Cricut Design app giving makers access to over 1.75 million images, 1,500 fonts, and thousands of ready-to-make projects and templates.

Cricut has been making efforts of late to make it easier for makers to jump straight in once they buy. Their design platform, Design Space, has seen updates offering more streamlined editing tools and workflow improvements, as well as guided design flows and AI-powered design tools to simplify the design process.

The focus of getting makers making, has also been seen in their recent approach to including tools and materials with new machines in Essentials Bundles. The Maker 5 will also be sold as an Essential Bundle including all the tools and materials to make up to 65 projects right out of the box
