Everyone has a favourite gaming headset, and often they are just hung off the side of your monitor, or maybe, like me, you have a very cheap stand stuck on the wall behind your monitor. Now, Razer has released a gaming stand, the Base Station V3 Chroma, perfect for your gaming setup.
The Razer Base Station V3 Chroma is a small headset stand with USB ports and RGB lighting that activates when you add or remove a headset. This intelligent automation helps you to make your gaming setup even better.
The Base Station V3 Chroma fits nicely into the Razer Chroma gaming ecosystem, and when paired with a Razer headset like the Barracuda X Chroma that Razer sent me, it looks amazing.
One thing to keep in mind when installing is that the top of the headset stand is single-use only – get it right; otherwise, you won’t be able to remove it and install it again. Taking it off must damage it in some way. Just be careful and match everything up before rushing in like a bull at a gate.
The base of the stand is screwed on using the included small screws and Allen key. This wasn’t super easy, but it only took a couple of minutes.
The rear of the base station has a USB-C port so you can power it from your PC. It also has a couple of USB-A ports on the rear to help you declutter your desktop if you need to plug in other things.
Next, set up the RGB lighting automations in the Razer Synapse app. I already had it installed on my PC, as a lot of my gaming equipment is made by Razer. Synapse detects the base automatically after you plug the base station into your PC via USB-C.
From there, it’s just a matter of customising your automations, such as a wave of RGB lighting going from inferior to superior when you take a headset off and vice versa when you put a headset on the base station. You can also set the lighting brightness and the standard RGB effects when an automation isn’t active.
My issue here was that once you put a headset on or off to start an automation, it stays doing that automation indefinitely – the base station lighting does NOT go back to the default effect you have for the base station. I would prefer it to do that rather than continuing the automation.
You can further customise the RGB lighting in the Razer Chroma app with various effects and lighting. The sheer number of customisable options is probably too many. Keep it simple, and it will most likely look better IMO.
The headset sits on top of the curved, rubberised ledge, which moves down when you add a headset and lifts when you remove it. This triggers the RGB lighting automation on the front of the base station. The headset headband sits on the ledge, helping it keep its shape, and it supports most headsets.
The underside of the base station features an anti-slip surface so it stays put on any surface without sliding during use. I found that all of my headsets sat nicely on the ledge, activating the RGB lighting as designed.
One concern with headset stands is that the ledge the headband sits on may damage the padded headband, creating permanent creases and indentations. The Razer Base Station V3 Chroma is less likely to do that because the ledge is rubberised, so it bends ever so slightly to the shape of the headband.
The Razer Base Station V3 Chroma looks amazing on my desktop, and even more so when I have all my gaming RGB going. It is a great way to keep clutter off your desk, giving you somewhere to store your headphones where they look neat but are still easy to access.

The RGB lighting offers more colour and style to your room and the customisation by Razer allows you to set it up how you want it. Any headset will work but of course it looks great with headsets with RGB lighting, such as the Razer Barracuda X Chroma seen in the images above.
