Garage Band now available for iPhone/iPod Touch

Apple have this morning released Garage Band for iPhone and iPod touch users.  The software which has been part of the Mac for some time, and was earlier this year introduced to the iPad allows users to create and record their own songs – without any real experience playing musical instrument .

GarageBand on iPad has been a big hit and we think customers will love using it on their iPhone or iPod touch,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The innovative Multi-Touch interface combined with Smart Instruments makes it easy to create great sounding music, even if you’ve never studied music or played an instrument before.”

Inside GarageBand is a few fun touch intstruments like keyboards, guitars and drums, as well as the ‘Smart Instruments’ which play custom chords and allow you to strum along to songs.

I can’t vouch for this, but aparently you can also plug your electric guitar into your device and record through the App including classic amp and stompbox effects, or record your voice or other sounds via the iPhone/iPod microphone.

That, plus 8 track mixing – it really is a pretty cool app.

GarageBand 1.1 for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch is available on the App Store™ for recommended retail price AUD$5.49 inc. GST to new users, or as a free update for existing GarageBand for iPad customers. GarageBand is a universal app that runs on iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S and iPod touch (3rd & 4th generation).
