Boeing 787 Dreamliner sets world records in class for around the world trip

Boeing’s latest toy, the 787 Dreamliner, has just set world records for longest distance without a stop and quickest around the world trip. Both are ‘in class’ records rather than out right, but the figures are pretty damn impressive.

The single-deck medium sized 787 Dreamliner took off from Boeing’s airport, Boeing Field, in Seattle, USA and went non-stop to Dhaka, Bangladesh. That’s 19,835 kilometres without needing a sip of extra fuel. On board were 13 people. The previous record for the 199,580-250,000 kilograms class was 16,903 for Airbus’ A330 plane.

The 787 Dreamliner, number six off the production line, also managed to break the world record for its class around the world. OK, so no other plane in the class had ever flown around the world like this, but it’s still a record. It did it in 42 hours and 27 minutes, flying directly back to Seattle after a two hour fuel stop in Dhaka.

Currently All Nippon Airways is the only carrier to have a 787 Dreamliner in its fleet.
