Speaking last week to The Daily Beast, Scott announced that he had just had his first meetings around the long-awaited sequel, and that those hoping for a return of Deckard would most likely end up disappointed:
Funny enough, I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week. We have a very good take on it. And we’ll definitely be featuring a female protagonist.
Blade Runner has long been regarded as one of the greatest science fiction movies ever made. Even Philip K. Dick, who penned the story Blade Runner was based on, was blown away by its gritty interpretation of the future. While the idea of a sequel will be scorned by many fans of the original, the potential for greatness is definitely there, especially with Scott on board.
There’s no word on when the sequel might hit cinemas, although given Scott only had his first meetings a couple of weeks ago, there’s probably a bit of a wait. If it looks anywhere near as good as Prometheus does though, it’s destined to be a huge success.
