The Nissan Pathfinder has turned a tad posh. Gone is the robust truck-like chassis replaced by decent, civil and family friendly underpinnings. With seven seats and a world class petrol V6, the all new Nissan Pathfinder will no doubt be a tempting proposition. The base ST and top tier Ti model recently spent some quality time outside The EFTM Garage.
Make: Nissan
Model: Pathfinder
Variant: ST & Ti (as tested)
Engine / Transmission: 3.5-litre V6 petrol, CVT automatic. ST (FWD) Ti (AWD).
Vital Stats: Power 190kW@6,400 rpm / 325Nm @4,400 rpm
Nissan Claimed Fuel Economy: 9.9l / 100km (FWD) 10.2l / 100km (AWD)
EFTM Claimed Fuel Economy: 10.6l / 100km (FWD) 11.9l / 100km (AWD).
MRRP Price: $39,990 – $64,890 (Plus on roads)
Wow Factor: A Deceptively large genuine seven seater with a mini Patrol feel and look about it. The CVT transmission behaves almost like a traditional auto, with a good kick down feel. The base ST model is great value.
Most Impressive: Great driving dynamics with a smooth and ultra quite ride. In fact the base ST model irons out rubbish roads more effectively than the Ti model’s 20” rims can. Nissan make world class V6 engines, the one found in the new Pathfinder is no different. Standard tri-zone air conditioning and a squillion cup holders ensure everyone is catered for.
Not So Impressive : No diesel option and yes much of its off road ability has been taken away. Power arrives very late, so off the mark is unusually sluggish. But once going there’s some real grunt.
