The pearl in the battle of the dual cabs oyster is the Volkswagen Amarok, in particular the as tested TDI 420 Highline Dual Cab. What sets it apart in this close fought category? Largely the sophisticated driveline. With a 2.0-litre four-cylinder biturbo-diesel producing figures of 132kW / 420Nm. It’s the quietest, most refined unit and coupled to a class leading 8-speed automatic.
Volkswagen Amarok
Currently there’s no better driving dual cab than the Amarok. It lacks the toughness and ground clearance of some others, but has beautifully light, comfort focused tuned steering. It’s on the cusp of a decent SUV the way it drives. It’s the sort of truck a hesitant wife would learn to appreciate. While still possessing the generic looks of most of the current crop it still looks and feels better put together.
Plus despite being easier to live with the Amarok is still functional and versatile. With 4Motion, a permanent all-wheel-drive system and massive tray it’s simply all good news for the Volkswagen work and play knockabout. An EFTM Best shoo-in.
