CatchOfTheDay launches Wine sales, but is there value?

Today when we heard about the CatchOfTheDay launch of wine sales we got very excited. It has been a while since we made a purchase from this website however it certainly brings back great memories of the midday mad rush for the single deal per day they once had. Now they’re selling hundreds of items. We’ve spent some time browsing their wine selections and we’ve matched them to Vintage Cellars and Dan Murphy’s to see how they all stack up.

Wirra Wirra Church Block McLaren Vale Cabernet Shiraz Merlot 2014

This wine is one that we absolutely love and recommend. We’ve been to Wirra Wirra in McLaren Vale too so we’ve gotten to know their wines deeply. Their Church Block is one of their most popular.

Vintage Cellars Price: $19.79 per bottle if purchased as a case of six or $21.99 individually

Dan Murphy’s Price: $18.99 per bottle if purchased as a case of six or $19.99 individually

CatchOfTheDay’s Price: $18 per bottle if purchased as a case ONLY. No individual bottle price.

Winner: Catch of the Day – however for those who don’t want to commit to six bottles you’re unable to buy just one.

Jacob’s Creek Double Barrel Shiraz 2014

We we’re actually drinking a glass of this wine before writing this article today. This bottle of wine from Jacob’s Creek is an absolutely stunning wine for the money. Every time we taste it we’re lost in the amazing value this wine presents. We’d recommend keeping a case of these on hand for any dinner party, ever.

Vintage Cellars Price: $22.49 per bottle if purchased as a case of six or $24.99 individually

Dan Murphy’s Price: $17.90 per bottle if purchased as a case of six or $18.80 individually

CatchOfTheDay’s Price: $18.99 per bottle if purchased as a case ONLY. No individual bottle price.

Winner: Dan Murphy’s. Not only is it cheaper by the case but it is also cheaper for a single bottle purchase.

Jansz Tasmania Premium Pipers River Cuvee Pinot Chardonnay NV

Sparkling wine from Tasmania has been receiving very high praise in recent times, the Pino Chardonnay from Jansz is a fine example of what Australia is capable of. So where should you buy it…

Vintage Cellars Price: $19.99 per bottle if purchased as a case of six or $22.21 individually

Dan Murphy’s Price: $18.10 per bottle if purchased as a case of six or $19.00 individually

CatchOfTheDay’s Price: $19.00 per bottle if purchased as a case ONLY. No individual bottle price.

Winner: Dan Murphy’s. Their individual bottle price matches what Catch of the Day provide in a case offering.

G.H. Mumm Brut Cordon Rouge NV

As was once the podium Champagne in Formula 1, and now the podium Champagne in Formula E, we have a special spot in our hearts for this brand. Their Champagne is fresh, vibrant and wonderful on a warm day, we love to drink Champagne as soon as friends arrive, a wonderful way to kick off an evening.

Vintage Cellars Price: $42.99 per bottle if purchased as a case of six or $47.77 individually

Dan Murphy’s Price: $44.95 per bottle if purchased as a case of six or $47.95 individually

CatchOfTheDay’s Price: $40.90 per bottle ONLY.

Winner: Catch of the Day wins this one by a mile. Their per bottle price smashes both competitors.

Finally…

Delivery is one where we thought things could swap and change the result. Ultimately all three are capable of standard $10 delivery for next business day so we’re leaving this out of the mix. We will mention also that Dan Murphy’s were quick to inform us (via twitter) they they will BEAT any competitors price. So in some of the comparisons above you could show the staff at Dan Murphy’s the competitor price and they’ll do more than match it.

The main conclusion that we have pulled from this is simple, in an online world where searching for comparisons take a whole ten seconds, it can be truly worth it to ensure you pay the right price for your favourite drop.

NOTE: All pricing accurate at the time of publishing and are subject to change.
