Dominos launches Robot Pizza delivery in Europe

Not content with having great pizza, not content with being one of Australia’s biggest Pizza chains, and not content with conducting real-world Pizza deliveries via a drone in New Zealand – Dominos are now trialling robot deliveries in Europe.

Happing in a few German and Dutch cities, the program using Starship Robots will deliver pizzas within a one mile radius of Dominos stores.

The concept is quite simple, these little DRU ground-based robots roll along the footpaths and cover short distance deliveries.

The robot is locked, so no one can steal the pizza, the recipient has an app control to unlock the robot once it arrives with your pizza!

The crazy, or inspirational (depending on how you look at it) Domino’s CEO Don Meij sees this as an important link in the future delivery chain

“We are a global company and we are eager to progress innovative technology in all of the countries in which we operate – we are very excited to be partnering with Starship as it brings regular deliveries by robot one step closer to commercial operations.

“Robotic delivery units will complement our existing delivery methods, including cars, scooters and e-bikes, ensuring our customers can get the hottest, freshest-made pizza delivered directly to them, wherever they are.

“With our growth plans over the next five to 10 years, we simply won’t have enough delivery drivers if we do not look to add to our fleet through initiatives such as this.

So, in the years ahead, if you live a few miles from the shop you might get a drone delivery, if you’re close you might get a robot – the future is pretty cool folks.

Meatlovers thanks:)
