Jaguar goes all-electric with the E-Type; All new models from 2020 to be electric

Jaguar have put on a whole event in the UK dedicated to tech – their inaugural Tech-Fest and they’ve kicked it off with two big bits of news, and I’m not sure which I’m more excited about.

As a massive fan of the beautiful classic Jaguar E-Type as a kid, it’s perhaps most exciting to see Jaguar revive the car as a concept; A fully electric car.

This hints strongly at the future of Jaguar, who today also announced that from 2020 all new Jaguar Model lines would be electrified.

To be clear, that does not mean every Jaguar from 2020 will be electrified, just like most other car companies, Jaguar’s have a long production life span, that could be 6-12 years or more depending on the model variant, but – when you glance forward to 2040 and beyond it’s starting to look very electric around the world.

Their already announced electric I-Pace model that will begin production late next year kicks things off, and is just a sign to the future.  Though the company uses the word “electrified” to ensure that Hybrid vehicles fit within this space.

Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover Chief Executive Officer, said: “Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice. We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles.”

Though most interest will be in the E-Type on show this week.

This car looks every bit the classic E-Type, except, under the bonnet is a fully electric power train.

No petrol, no emissions, no cylinders, no engine.

And check out that fully electronic dash!

Based on the 1968 Series 1.5 Roadster this hot puppy will do 0-60 miles per hour in just 5.5 seconds.

I. Want. One.
