Apple users spent $450million on New Years day – $1.7billion After Christmas

Rumours of Apple’s death have been greatly exaggerated, well sure their share price has taken a hammering, but it’s the long game that really matters and “services” is a huge part of that long game.  If the “holiday” spending in the App Store is anything to go by they’re on the right track.

Between Christmas and Year Years Eve App Store purchases topped $1.7 billion Aussie dollars, with New Years Day along then seeing a huge $450 million spend.

That’s money people are spending on Apps, or within Apps.  Big cash to the developers, but also remember Apple takes a big chunk of that.

“The App Store had a record-breaking holiday week and New Year’s Day. The holiday week was our biggest week ever with more than US$1.22 billion spent on apps and games, and New Year’s Day set a new single-day record at more than US$322 million,” said Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Thanks to the inspiring work of our talented developers and the support of our incredible customers around the world, the App Store finished off an outstanding 2018 and kicked off 2019 with a bang.”

Record spending was seen by Apple in not just the App Store but Apple Music, Cloud Services and Apple Pay.

When you consider the growth in App Development globally it’s hard to look past the job and business growth even here in Australia with plenty of outstanding Aussie App success stories.
