Optus partner with telecommunications giants to successfully test 5G

It’s official! We’re getting closer… Optus, Singtel and Ericsson have successfully pulled off an end-to-end 5G video call, with augmented reality between Australia and Singapore. They utilized 5G testing hardware from OPPO to make this would be dream a reality.

Throughout the video call, augmented reality was implemented in discussions to annotate on their respective live 5G sites – allowing for a much more interactive call. While there are significantly more exciting uses for 5G technology into the future such as in gaming, retail, etc, it seems a nice little measure to test the developing tech.

Allen Lew, CEO of Optus said, “Once again Optus has proven our 5G agility, working collaboratively with our colleagues in Singapore to successfully land a ground-breaking 5G inter-country AR video call. Just last month we achieved another first, with the launch of our plans for our 5G Home Broadband product for Australian consumers and today’s announcement is another step in our commitment to lead 5G delivery in Australia.”

In Australia, Optus and Ericsson are partnering to build 50 new network sites that will deliver this new technology to the masses.

This demonstration was an enormous collaborative effort and a huge step in the right direction. 5G isn’t far from being part of everyday life – are you prepared?
