Toyota Australia Cyber-attack update

You may have heard about Toyota Australia’s cyber-attack this week. The company confirmed it had been the victim of some kind of malicious activity. As a result, all of its IT systems were taken offline.

The attack occurred on the 19th of January, but Toyota Australia has since issued statements assuring the public and employees it believes “at this stage” no personal data had been compromised.

The latest update states “Our network of 279 dealers is still operational and able to help customers with their enquiries. However, there have been some impacts to parts supply, which is subsequently delaying servicing at some dealerships”.

An emergency call centre that normally fields calls for the Takata airbag recall was established via 1800 462 000 however will close today at 6pm AEDT. The company will advise once normal customer operations are back up and running through the Guest Experience Centre.

Toyota stress the key facts are as follows.

• We became aware of the attempted attack on Tuesday, 19 February 2019.

• A number of corporate IT systems are still offline including email.

• There has been no enterprise-wide directive to send employees home.

• We have no further information about the origin of the attempted cyber-attack.
