Lenovo announces new Marvel game for the Mirage AR headset and 7-inch Google Assistant Smart Display

After announcing their new range of laptops, Chromebooks and tablets, Lenovo has gone for the more fun side of things announcing a new 7-inch Google Assistant powered Smart Display as well as a new Marvel game and controllers for their Mirage AR headset.

Smart Display
The new 7-inch Lenovo Smart Display is a successor to the pair of original smart displays announced in 2018. The newer model is more compact, with Lenovo saying it’s been ‘redesigned for a minimal footprint to fit nearly anywhere in the home’.

The design is more symmetrical, with the speaker mounted under the display and though smaller it should still pack a decent audio punch with dual 1.5″ 5W stereo speakers and a passive radiator.

A 2MP camera is included for video conferencing, and there’s a switch on the rear of the display to turn off both the microphone and camera to ensure privacy.

Lenovo hasn’t announced availability as yet, but we’ll find out more as the launch approaches.

Marvel: Dimension of Heroes for Mirage AR headset

Lenovo is also finally updating their standalone Mirage AR headset with a new Marvel game called Marvel: Dimension of Heroes and a pair of new controllers.

Originally launched with a Star Wars game, and snazzy lightsaber controller, the Mirage AR headset has been languishing for a while now, with retailers dropping the price to a mere $60 on occasion. That will change with a new Marvel game and controllers.

The new ‘Universe Controllers’ have LEDs in the top which flash different colours while you play. They look comfortable with semi-circular handles and thumbsticks on top, and you’ll be playing for up to 8 hours on the AA batteries inside them.

You can also use the controllers to play Star Wars: Jedi Challenges – though you won’t look as cool sans lightsaber.

The game itself looks fun, you can step into the boots of Captain Marvel and Captain America, Thor, Dr. Strange, Star-Lord and Black Panther, to save the world from Dormamu fighting the likes of Loki, Ronan the Accuser, Ultron Prime and the Winter Soldier.

Lenovo hasn’t announced availability of the updated Mirage AR headset and controllers – or if you can get the controllers separately for those of us with the headset already. We’ll get details on pricing and dates closer to launch.
