After Microsoft unveiled pricing for the Xbox Series S and Series X the other day, Sony has finally responded with pricing and launch dates for the Playstation 5.
The console is set to launch on November 12th in the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, as well as Australia and New Zealand, while the rest of the world will see the PS5 launch on November 19.
Sony has announced pricing for the Playstation 5 and Playstation 5 Digital Edition. The Playstation 5 with ‘Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive’ will be priced at $749.99 AUD, while the Playstation 5 Digital Edition without a disc drive will cost $599.99 AUD.
In terms of hardware, Sony has previously announced the console will run an AMD Zen 2-based processor with a custom RDNA 2 AMD GPU 16GB GDDR6 RAM. The console will have a custom 825GB SSD storage solution to improve data transfer for games – and there’s going to be a lot of games.
Sony showed off some of the games announced previously in more detail including the new Final Fantasy, Hogwarts: Legacy, Spiderman: Miles Morales, the new Oddworld SoulStorm games, and many more. Sony has announced that Spiderman: Miles Morales and Horizon Dawn will both be available on PS4, so it may help battle the cheaper Xbox Series S pricing.
The Sony PS4 launched here in 2013 at $599, but was hard to find in quantity. Sony is rumoured to have dropped production of PS5 units by 4 million units to 11 million units, so we may be looking at some rarity for the PS5 at launch.
Pre-orders for the PS5 are live now at EB Games, with bundles including the Headset and controller available too.
They’ve essentially equalled the Xbox Series X on price, and with a lot of titles like Spiderman: Miles Morales and the new Horizon Dawn going to PS4, they’ve negated some of the Xbox Series S hype. You can get your pre-order in now
