Foxtel adds Voice control and search to IQ3 and IQ4

Foxtel customers using the IQ3 and IQ4 boxes will get a software upgrade today which enables voice control on the compatible Voice Remote control.

Using the microphone button at the top of the remote you will be able to do anything from search for a movie, sports show or TV show, as well as control functions of the IQ box.

Rewind 10 seconds, pause play and more, all with your voice.

Foxtel CEO Patrick Delany said “Foxtel is known for its breadth and depth of content across movies, entertainment, lifestyle, documentaries and sport. We have more than 40,000 individual titles available including full season stacks, and we’ve had massive increases in titles available on demand.

“It means we have great shows for every family member however with so much choice, finding it for the big screen hasn’t always been simple – try typing in a search for the multi-award winning “Chernobyl”.

“With the launch of our new user interface last year and now the Voice control, we are continuing to invest in innovation to reimagine people’s experience of Foxtel and ensure we provide a premium experience of the best of TV and on-demand, all in one place.

Some examples emailed to Foxtel’s early adopters today included:

Search Movies by quote
Say “Hasta la vista, baby”

Search Movies by genre
Say “Horror movies”

For sports, fans, Search by sport, team or game
Say “Geelong matches”

or, Search by saying
Say “What a catch!”

In terms of navigating the IQ3 or IQ4, you can Change the channel
Say “BBC Earth”

Change your settings
Say “Captions on”

Or to Play, pause, find your spot
Say “Go back 10 minutes”

The update rolls out across the huge number of boxes over the coming weeks and started last night. Over 250,000 customers already have the new style remote, but those keen can buy one at $29 from Foxtel.
