Hisense announces it’s first 8K TV – launching next month

Continuing Hisense’s pre-CES run of announcements, the company has today announced a series of 8K TVs for the Australian market, launching next month in 65, 75 and 85 inch sizes.

Despite the recent announcement of the company’s own VIDAA U5 operating system for their 4K ULED TVs, the 8K TVs will all be Android TVs, bringing Google Assistant to Hisense, and taking advantage of a new far-field microphone for hands free operation.

Kicking off at $6,999 for their 75 inch which will be the first to arrive, the launch retail price (which will no doubt be higher than the retail sticker price) puts it on par with Samsung’s entry level, so we can expect a little price war at JB HiFi and Harvey Norman over 8K TVs for sure.

That first TV to market will be the Hisense U80G which is Ultra HD Certified, and has Quantum Dot colour, full array local dimming (pro), Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos.

To answer the question of Content, Hisense has their own image processing called “Hi-View Engine Pro” which uses Artificial Intelligence to analyse your lower resolution inputs to upscale for 8K.

Andre Iannuzzi from Hisense Australia, said: “8K is an incredibly exciting innovation and we are very proud to introduce the new Hisense ULED 8K TV, which uses sophisticated, AI-powered upscaling technology to elevate and optimise image quality no matter the source, be that free-to-air TV, streaming or gaming.”

“With its optimised upscaling capabilities, the TV generates images with impeccable, true-to-life detail, and together with its advanced audio features, creates an at-home viewing experience that is truly spectacular. We look forward to seeing it in Australian homes this February,” he added.

It won’t just be 8K in 2021 though, Hisense say there will be a variety of ULED 4K models also, featuring much the same specs aside from the 8K features, as well as some that are “IMAX enhanced”.

For those with a “Go Big” not go home attitude, there will also be a Ultra HD 4K TV as big as 98 inches from Hisense in 2021.

“Our 2021 ULED TV range is all about giving Australians access to some of the highest quality TV technologies and features available. We’re not just talking about those at the top of the range – from our ULED 8K TV offering through to our ULED 4K models, Australians can enjoy the likes of Dolby Vision ™ HDR, Dolby Atmos® Audio, eARC, VRR, HDMI 2.1 and far-field voice control,” said Iannuzzi.

And that mention of HDMI 2.1 is critical for the PS5 and Xbox Series X market. With a new Game Mode Pro, Hisense TVs will feature Variable Refresh Rates for great gaming, Auto Low Latency Mode and more.

We’ll no doubt get a full rundown of all the TVs by model and feature when CES kicks off next week.
