espresso Lite 15 Review – the extra screen that goes everywhere with me

We’ve been fans of espresso Displays for years now, firstly because who wouldn’t want to support an Aussie company, secondly because their products rock. So the new espresso Lite 15 is a fascinating product because it brings their general product concept to a far wider audience without some of the trimmings espresso is known for. Interesting.

When I think of espresso displays I think of a metal body, ultra-thin second screen for my laptop that I can easily put in a laptop bag and take with me when I travel or work remotely.

They wisely added higher resolution 4K displays to their range a while back and dabbled with some fancy software features to capitalise on the touch screen. But if I’m honest, all I really wanted was a second screen.

Enter the espresso Lite 15 and I think I got what I wanted.

Super lightweight still, but a touch thicker than previous espresso Displays, this “Lite” has a plastic body and comes in five different colours – it’s like the MacBook Neo of espresso Displays.

In the box you’ll also get the latest generation espresso Display stand+ which allows a simple magnetic attachment for the display, and it can sit low and level with your laptop screen, or high and above your laptop screen.

As with all their displays, the espresso Lite 15 connects with just one USB-C cable to almost any laptop and requires no additional power. There are two USB-C ports, so if you wanted to for convenience of placement you can power into the display and passthrough power then charges your laptop. Boom.

Resolution is Full HD at 60Hz and it’s actually a touch brighter than some other espresso products, though not their Pro displays which beat this one’s 400 nits.

I used this in the hotel, heck I even pulled it out at the Airport lounge, a man’s gotta work – and for me it’s handy when video editing, making the espresso Lite 15 display my Preview or Program monitor, and when not editing, it’s great as a quick glance for emails while the work is happening on the main screen.

They say the whole kit is under 2kg which is great, but man, the stand is the bulk of that I reckon – and I’d love for them to be working on something lighter. I’m sure the magnet takes a lot of that weight, but without the stand, this thing is hardly noticeable in your backpack – but it’s useless without the stand, let’s be honest.

Sure, be boring, pick the white or black one, but what you really want to do is be adventurous and stand out with the Mint, Orange or Purple.
