Huawei Mate X2 unveiled with new foldable design

Foldable phones are growing as a category and Huawei has unveiled their latest foldable, the Mate X2.

Huawei previously used a single large folding display which wrapped the exterior of the phone, but for the Mate X2 the design has changed. Huawei is instead using an inward folding screen with a separate front facing display.

Huawei is using OLED panels on the Mate X2 with 90Hz refresh rate for both the 8-inch 2480 x 2200 resolution interior display and 6.45-inch 2700 x 1160 resolution display which also includes a punch hole notch containing a 16 MP Selfie Camera.

Huawei is offering use cases for the larger display including Smart Multi-Window to open more than one window at the same time. The Mate X2 also offers floating windows for improved workflow.

On the rear of the phone  Huawei has included a quad-camera array which includes a 50 MP Ultra Vision Wide Angle camera, 16 MP Cine Ultra-Wide Camera, 12 MP Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and 8 MP “SuperZoom” Camera with 10x Optical Zoom. Huawei will again offer their 100x zoom option, as well as AI scene recognition for improved photos.

Huawei is using the Kirin 9000 processor inside the Mate X2 with 8GB of RAM  and options for either 256GB or 512GB of RAM. The phone includes a 4,400mAh battery with support for 55W Huawei SuperCharge.

Like their most recent phones, Huawei will launch the Mate X2 without Google apps or services including the Google Play store. The Mate X2 is still using Android  with Huawei’s custom EMUI 11 skin on Android 10 using Huawei Mobile Services and the Huawei App Gallery for apps.

Huawei hasn’t announced any availability for the Mate X2 outside China, but it will launch in four colours: Crystal Blue,Crystal Pink,White,Black.
