The OPPO Find X3 Pro camera looks set to take smartphone photography to a new level

Last month we showed some new press render images of the OPPO Find X3 Pro which demonstrated not just a weird-looking camera bump but also the large lenses expected to arrive in OPPO’s 2021 flagship smartphone. Today the same source, Evan Blass via Voice.com, has revealed not only more images but also some details of the camera system in the Find X3 Pro.

The new camera bump, called the “crater” design with OPPO internally touting it as a massive technical achievement. The makeup of the imaging system has also been revealed with two yet-to-be-released 50MP Sony IMX766 sensors making up the ultrawide and primary lenses.

The 3MP macro lens accompanying these lenses is ringed with a flash and is capable to 25X zoom which OPPO are calling an on-device “microscope”. The fourth lens in the rear camera module is a 13MP telephoto lens with 2X optical zoom — the same lens that was on the Find X2 Pro.

With rumours also circulating that the OPPO Find X3 Pro will also bring an under-display selfie camera to market — something we find a bit difficult to believe but certainly hope it is true.

Other rumoured specs include a Snapdragon 888 chipset, a 6.7-inch 120Hz refresh rate 2K AMOLED display, 12GB of RAM, 256GB of onboard storage, SuperVOOC 2.0 65W fast wired charging and VOOC Air 30W fast wireless charging.

The Find X3 Pro and its siblings, the Neo and Lite, are set to launch in March — we expect them to arrive Downunder the following month. OPPO have improved their smartphone cameras a lot in recent years — could this be the year they bring a best-in-class camera to market?
