Apple’s annual WWDC to be an online only event in 2021

It’s hardly surprising really to find out today that Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference will once again be an online event in 2021 due to the ongoing effects of the Global COVID-19 Pandemic.

The event is where Apple announce the newest features of their upcoming operating systems for all devices, from iPhone to Watch and Macs.

This year’s event will be held from Jun 8 to June 12 in the same online only format as was succesfully debuted in 2020.

As an online format, there are huge advantages, from making the conference available to all Developers around the world, not just a few thousand lucky and able to head to San Jose.

Susan Prescott, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations said “We love bringing our developers together each year at WWDC to learn about our latest technologies and to connect them with Apple engineers,”

“We are working to make WWDC21 our biggest and best yet, and are excited to offer Apple developers new tools to support them as they create apps that change the way we live, work, and play.”

Times are different, but for now, things are staying virtual – for developers, this is actually a great thing, though those who long for the physical experience are missing out on the networking and social activities that come from WWDC, not to mention the cool Jacket they each get when attending in person.
