Google I/O is back this year as an online only event

After Apple announced that WWDC, their developer conference would go ahead in June as a virtual event Google has also announced that their developer conference would also go ahead as a virtual event this year.

As usual, Google hasn’t made it easy to find out information about the event. They’ve released a puzzle to solve on their events website, which was shared by the Google Developers social media accounts.

If you’re keen to find out when the event will be without going through the rigmarole of solving the puzzles, it will be held ‘live, online, and free for everyone’ from May 18-20 according to Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

Google didn’t hold Google I/O last year, cancelling even the virtual components of the event in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, so it’s good to see the event return, even if only virtually. Google has always done well streaming their developer sessions on YouTube and this will continue for Google I/O 2021, and if you’re interested you can tune in to any of them for free.

We’ll know more about timings for the always exciting keynote address and what Google will focus on for the event when they release the schedule.
