EFTM Best Car – Porsche Taycan

Choosing the winners of our three primary categories Tech, Cars & Lifestyle in the EFTM Best Awards is tough. We try to elevate them above the rest, they are standouts from the year.

Best Car was an easy one. Ever since getting in the car, and then from the moment I stepped out, I’d wondered how to beat that.

The Porsche Taycan is a refined view of the future. It’s not “just an electric car”. It’s a Porsche. It has the stance on the road you want from a Porsche Sports car, and it has the power and performance you’d expect of the same.

But it’s done not for stats and to show off – it’s done because that’s what a Porsche owner would expect.

Mark Webber summed it up best when I talked to him at the launch, this car can’t just do 0-100 in a blistering speed, it can do it over and over and over again. The kind of thing necessary on something like a twisty hill climb.

I drove this car all the way from Melbourne to Sydney. It proved it’s fast charging capabilities instantly. It proved that I needed to stop more than it did. And it was a comfortable, quiet ride on the open road.

For me, the Porsche Taycan is the benchmark for electric cars. It’s actually why the Polestar 2 won our Best Electric Car Award. Firstly, because on Value, the Polestar is clearly more for the average buyer, but because both are just “cars” that happen to be electric and take advantage of that oh so very well.

I could say ignore the price tag, but in fact, it’s great value considering it’s performance, handling and pedigree.

The Porsche Taycan, an easy choice for 2021 EFTM Best Car.
