Survey says – we’d prefer to text than call while rising costs force many to look for a better mobile deal

To demonstrate the point that there is money to be saved in your household budget by just simply shopping around for a better mobile deal, Boost Mobile has found Australians are sticking “blindly” to their existing mobile deals in the face of a cost of living crisis.

The survey of over 3,000 Aussies, with a focus on regional areas found that more than 16% of people are experiencing significant financial distress with many more making significant changes to their purchasing.

As we’ve said often here, your mobile plan is a great way to make an almost immediate change and see the savings for the long term.

Boost Mobile’s Jason Haynes says “As a brand that has been fighting for value for Australians for more than 20 years, it has always been important for us to listen to consumers and make sure we are doing what we can to provide great value. This research shows that there is significant financial hardship facing many Australians that may be going unreported,”

Boost’s survey found similar results to the EFTM Survey conducted in recent weeks – too many people are loyal to their telco.

64% had been with their current telco for more than three years and it’s worse among the older demographic rocketing to 73% among those 45-64.

Looking at what makes a good telco in the eyes of Australians, the survey found that Good “Network coverage” was the most important factor for almost 50% of respondents, with pricing a close second.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, phone calls aren’t a priority any more – with most people preferring text messaging to calls. Only 30% of people chose calls as their top way to communicate! Facebook and WhatsApp rounded out the top four behind text and phone.

All in all, it shows that the data allowance on your plan is critical, and it’s more data to support the theory that we can get a better deal.

EFTM’s tips for a better mobile deal:

  • Check how much data you’ve been using in the last few months
  • Confirm just how important your current network is to you
  • Find a telco that uses your preferred network.
  • Match that to a data plan that’s close to not double or more what you need.
