ASUS ROG announces new Strix, Zephyrus and Flow laptops powered by updated Intel, AMD and NVIDIA chips

ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) have announced a new series of laptops at CES with new Strix, Zephyrus and Flow laptops announced using new CPUs and GPUs from AMD, Intel and NVIDIA, as well as an update to their XG Flow eGPU.

The new range takes advantage of new 13th Gen processors from Intel and Ryzen Zen 4 processors from AMD, as well as GeForce RTX 40 Series Laptop GPUs from NVIDIA. 

Strix

The new Strix range includes the Strix SCAR 16 and 18, as well as Strix G16 and G18. 

Stix Scar

The new Strix SCAR lineup includes the Intel powered Strix Scar 16 and Strix Scar 18, as well as the AMD powered Strix Scar 17. 

The Strix Scar 16 and Strix SCAR 18 both include a chassis re-design to accommodate larger 16 and 18-inch 16:10 aspect ratio displays, which carry ASUS’ Nebula badge introduced last year to ensure consumers of the panels ability to perform with fast motion, bright backlights, and vivid colours – with the 16-inch Strix SCAR offering users the option for a new QHD, 240Hz Nebula HDR display with Mini LED technology. 

Both the Strix SCAR 16 and 18 will include up to the 13th Gen Intel Core i9 13980HX and up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU at 175 W. Both models can be configured with up to 64 GB DDR5 4800 MHz memory and up to 4TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.

The AMD powered Strix Scar 17 will include up to the latest AMD Ryzen 9 Zen 4 CPU and of course the option include up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU at 175W. The Strix Scar 17 will also be able to be configured with up to 64 GB DDR5 4800 MHz, but only up to 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.

The Strix Scar 17 only has one display option, a 17-inch QHD (2560 × 1440), 240 Hz / 3 ms, DCI-P3 100%, IPS-level panel with G-SYNC and Dolby Vision.

ASUS Australia has no information on IF or When we’ll even see these models, with ‘Australian pricing and availability to be advised when available’.

Strix G-Series

ASUS ROG are also updating their Strix G-Series with a new Strix G16, Strix G17 and Strix G18 announced. 

The updated Strix G16 and Strix G18 will be running on an Intel platform, while the G17 will use AMD Ryzen series processors. 

The Strix G16 and G16 will be launched offering the option to run up to 13th Gen Intel Core i9 13980HX processor as well as up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU. Both models will also be able to be configured with up to 32 GB DDR5 4800 MHz and up to 2 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.

The 16-inch Strix G16 will include options for two displays, a QHD+ resolution Pantone validated Dolby Vision panel with up to 240Hz refresh, or a FullHD+ resolution IPS display with up to 165Hz refresh. The 18-inch Strix 

For those wanting the AMD processors, the Strix G17 will use AMD’s Ryzen Zen 4 processor combined with the GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU. The G17 will be offered with up to 32GB DDR5 4800MHz memory and up to 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. 

The G17 will include an option for either a 17-inch QHD Dolby Vision compatible or 17-inch FHD resolution IPS Panel.

Again, ASUS Australia has no information on when or if we’ll see these models, opting to advise we’ll find out more later. 

Zephyrus

ASUS ROG is also updating their Zephyrus line-up, with new Intel or AMD CPUs and NVIDIA RTX  graphics. The new line-up includes the new Zephryus M16, as well as a new Zephyrus G16 and updated Zephyrus G14. There is also a new Zephyrus Duo 16. 

Zephyrus M16

The new Zephyrus M16 has been redesigned from the ground up with an improved cooling system – while still retaining it’s thin and light form-factor. 

The Zephyrus M16 will feature up to Intel Core i9 13900H CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU and will include options for up to 64 GB DDR5 4800 MHz memory and up to 2 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.

The Zephyrus M16 will also be the first 16-inch device in their range with the ROG AniMe Matrix LED lighting array. 

The Zephyrus M16 will include a 16-inch, QHD Nebula HDR Display with Mini-LED technology. The panel includes 1,024 dimming zones,and up to 1100 nits of peak brightness. The display will have a 240 Hz refresh rate and 100% DCI-P3 coverage for excellent colour reproduction. 

Zephyrus G16 and G14.

The Zephyrus G-series will also see the introduction of the new G16 model using the Intel Core i9 13900H CPU and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU, with up to 48 GB DDR4 3200 MHz and up to 2 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. The G16 will be offered with either a QHD+ resolution Nebula Display or FHD IPS panels. 

We’re also seeing an update to the Zephyrus G14 which will use up to an AMD Ryzen Zen 4 CPU and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU. The G14 will be offered with up to 32 GB DDR5 4800 MHz and up to 1 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. The G14 will have a choice of three displays, with two QHD+ resolution Nebula Displays – one a HDR, Mini LED panel and the other an IPS panel, or a FHD+ resolution IPS display. 

Zephyrus Duo 16

Lastly for the Zephyrus range, the Zephyrus Duo 16 has been updated with an AMD Ryzen Zen 4 processor with 16 cores and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU. 


The Zephyrus Duo 16 will of course feature it’s dual display setup featuring either a 16-inch QHD+ resolution Mini LED panel or 16-inch QHD+ resolution IPS panel and a 4K touchscreen that slides up as the laptop is opened.

The Zephyrus Duo 16 will be able to be configured with up to 64GB DDR5 4800 MHz memory and up to 4TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. 

ASUS has no information on when or if we’ll see these Zephyrus models in Australia, with a promise to update us when the information is available.

ROG Flow

Fans of the convertible ROG Flow series will be pleased to see an update to the Flow X13, Flow Z13 and Flow X16 as well as the Flow XG Mobile eGPU. 

Flow X13 2023

The Flow X13 2023 will now use the latest AMD Ryzen Zen 4 processor with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU with up to 32 GB of ultrafast LPDDR5 RAM and up to Up to 2 TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.

The Flow X13 will include a 13.4-inch QHD+ resolution ROG Nebula IPS Display or 13.4-inch FHD+ resolution IPS display, both with G-Sync and Dolby Vision, Pantone validation and covered in Corning Gorilla Glass DXC. 

The new Flow X13 will include a redesigned chassis, shrinking its overall footprint by 10mm, while still allowing for a 15-inch keyboard layout and larger touchpad, as well as a larger 75Wh battery. 

There is a FHD IR Camera included with the Flow X13 with Windows Hello support for fast login. 

Flow Z13

The Flow Z13 will use an Intel processor and NVIDIA GPU with options for up to 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900H Processor and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU, with a TGP of up to 65 W. 

There will be options for up to 16 GB DDR5 5200 MHz memory and up to 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD.

The Flow Z13 will include a 13.4-inch QHD resolution IPS panel with 165 Hz refresh rate, G-Sync support, Dolby Vision and is Pantone Validated. 

Flow X16

Lastly, the Flow X16 will also use Intel processors, with the same option for up to an Intel Core i9 13900H processor, though with a slightly higher end option on graphics with up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU.

The Flow X16 will also allow for up to 64GB of DDR5 4800MHz memory and up to 2TB PCIe 4.0 SSD. 

ASUS is also offering a 16-inch ROGH Nebula Display with either HDR Mini LED or IPS panels, both with support for G-Sync, Dolby Vision and are Pantone Validated. They’re also both covered with Corning Gorilla Glass DXC. 

Flow – XG Mobile eGPU

The Flow series of convertibles are also getting an update to their eGPU using the latest NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPU with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU with a maximum TGP of 175 W now on-board. 

The XG Mobile will connect using the ROG XG Mobile interface and USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C combo port and include a variety of ports including three USB 3.2 Type-A ports, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, HDMI 2.1, Display Port 1.4, an SD Card Reader and RJ-45 ethernet jack.  

As with the rest of the range, ASUS Australia hasn’t advised any availability information for the Flow range, with information to come as soon as it’s available.
