Okay so the universe is beautiful and exciting and cool but it’s also… a lot. I’m willing to bet I’m not alone when I say that the furthest leap I’ve made into the solar system is learning my star sign (Sagittarius for those playing along at home). Which is why at CES 2023, a lot of heads have been turned by the Unistellar eQuinox 2.
The eQuinox 2 is being paraded as the most accessible and connected smart telescope. What’s a smart telescope you ask? Oh you know, you just tell the app what you want to see in space and it will SHOW YOU SPACE. Welcome to the future.
It’s yet another product we’ve seen at CES out of the French tech startups and is hoping to tackle the knowledge and time barriers that currently exist in astronomy – in their words “making space exploration accessible to all”.
The primary selling point here is that you can select an object or point in the solar system and be handed a real-time image of the location, no training (or understanding for that matter) necessary.
And if that’s not enough for you, the eQuinox 2 delivers greater image quality than standard optical telescopes with built-in machine trained light pollution reduction algorithms. In addition to this, the telescope will take a series of images simultaneously, process them for better quality and layer to provide a more rich image.

Now while the knowledge and time gap is being thoroughly broken down by this product, the price barrier will remain firmly in place. The Unistellar eQuinox 2 is available for pre-order at ~$3,600 AUD, which certainly isn’t chump change. However for those with the interest and pocket money, this could be a game changer.
