Samsung has today announced their vision for the connected smart lifestyle with a new SmartThings Station set to be the centre of it all.
The new vision incorporates not just the smart home but also the connected car but also the workplace and mobile devices with an end goal to provide a seamlessly connected and intuitive experience in the connected world.
“We recognize our vision is a big one,” said CEO JH Han. “It’s about solving real challenges today and understanding consumers’ future needs and aspirations. It will take time, innovation, and cooperation with partners worldwide. But we are committed to achieving it, and already getting started.”
A part of Samsung’s vision is customers being able to connect more of their devices, of any brand, to each other. This interoperability is set to be based around the new Matter smart home standard and Samsung’s new SmartThings Station set to have Matter support built in out of the box.
The SmartThings Station gives the consumer the ability to quickly setup and connect devices from a range of devices and products, including Matter devices. The Station offers users the ability to easily automate and trigger three different scenes with the simple press, long press or double press on the included button. Other scenes can also be set up and activated from within the app.
The SmartThings Station allows multiple devices to seamlessly interact and operate with each other to create a “harmonised environment.” Automating scenes is easily performed using the Samsung SmartThings app allowing you to set up devices to perform actions without having to interact with them individually.
The Station also includes 15W wireless charging support for your Qi compatible device with the ability to notify you when a device has finished charging.
“Having a smarter home shouldn’t be complicated or expensive. So we wanted to create SmartThings Station as a simple, reliable and expandable smart home hub,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings, Device Platform Center at Samsung Electronics.
Samsung has also focused on security with Samsung Knox Matrix syncing credentials across devices while protecting sensitive information.
Along with the SmartThings Station, Samsung outlined next-generation innovations and technologies based around AI including Relumino Mode on their TVs which allows vision impaired people to view content.
At this stage availability for the SmartThings Station has only been announced for the US and Korea but given that Samsung SmartThings devices are readily available here in Australia it’ll hopefully make an appearance here at some stage. We will keep you updated on Australian availability and pricing if and when they come to hand.
