ASUS ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate arrive in Australia

After the international launch of the ASUS ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate back in April, the ROG Phone 7 series has finally arrive in Australia.

As you’d expect from ROG, the gaming focused phones use top of the line specs including the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM, 512 GB UFS 4.0 storage and a 6.78” Samsung AMOLED display with up to 165Hz refresh rate. There’s also a 6000 mAh battery with 65W HyperCharge support.

It’s a lot of hardware, and it’s intended to be used with an improved cooling system for  improving both performance and battery life. Using ROG’s GameCool 7 Thermal System, both phones include their new rapid-cycle vapour chamber design, while the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate adds the new AeroActive Portal, an inlet in the back of the phone that attaches to the AeroActive Cooler 7 to deliver more air to the vapour chamber, cooling the phone even more.

The ROG AeroActive Cooler 7 has always been a prime accessory for gamers, adding in additional cooling for improved performance, but it isn’t just an active cooler this year, with a sub-woofer built-intogre it capable of adding up to 77% more bass volume. This woofer pairs in nicely with the dual front-facing Dirac tuned speakers – and if that’s not enough, there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Both the ROG Phone 7 models, as well as the Aero Active Cooler 7 include touch-sensitive AirTrigger ultrasonic controls on the side of the phone. You can map on-screen touch controls to the AirTriggers and use unique gestures like tapping, sliding, pressing and lifting to offer more functionality. You can even enable Gyroscope Aiming for a more console-like experience.

Another difference between the two phones is the unique ROG Vision matrix display on the rear of the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. The display can show animations triggered by system events, or even custom animations you create.

The ROG Phone 7 includes a triple camera array on the rear consisting of a 50MP main sensor, 13MP ultrawide, and 5-megapixel macro, with a 32 MP selfie camera built-in to the display.

The phones come running Android 13 with new ROG UI, with ASUS promising four years of security updates and two major OS updates – which presumably includes Android 14, due to arrive in the next couple of months.

The ROG Phone 7 is available in Phantom Black or Storm White for $1,799AUD, while the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate will be available in Storm White only with the ROG Vision display on the rear for $2,099AUD through the ASUS e-store and major Australian retailers, including JB Hi-Fi
