MSI Claw portable handheld gaming console announced with Intel Core Ultra processor

MSI have announced their latest round of laptops at CES today, and after some teasing on social media they’ve also unveiled the Claw, their take on a Windows powered portable handheld gaming console.

The gaming handheld will be powered by Intel’s new Meteor Lake Core Ultra processors with the Claw specs listing ‘up to Intel Core Ultra 7 processor 155H’.

The console will use ARC graphics and comes with 16GB DDR5 RAM and a gen 4 M.2 SSD which will vary in size according to country.

There’s a 54Whr battery included in the chassis with MSI promising up to 2-hours battery life under full workload – and the Claw also boosts MSI’s cooling tech to keep the handheld cooler for longer, using dual fans and heat pipes to dissipate heat.

The MSI Claw includes an ‘up to’ 7” FHD (1920 x 1080) resolution IPS touch display with 120 Hz Refresh Rate for smooth game play. The panel supports 100% sRGB and should be quite bright with a typical brightness of 500 nits.

Either side of the display are the controls with a D-Pad and analogue controller on the left, and ABXY buttons and another analogue controller on the right. The controls also include ergonomic grips on the back with hall effect triggers.

While there’s a number of gaming handhelds on the market including the ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go and of course, the Steam Deck, the MSI is the first to be powered by Intel Core Ultra processors. The processors include Intel XeSS super-sampling, which MSI says enables smooth gameplay at 1080p resolution and medium settings.

At this stage we haven’t seen any details on Australian launch dates or pricing, but we’re keen to check it out. Stay turned on MSI website.
