2025 GMC Yukon unveiled, coming to Australia next year as Toyota LandCruiser rival

The latest version of the GMC Yukon – one of America’s top-selling luxury SUVs – has been unveiled in the US.

And for the first time, it is coming to Australia.

The GMC Yukon will be sold in Australia via General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV) alongside the Corvette sports car and Chevrolet Silverado pick-up.

While the Corvette is factory-built in right-hand-drive in the US, the GMC Yukon will join the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and 2500 pick-ups being remanufactured to right-hand-drive by the Walkinshaw Automotive Group in Melbourne, the engineering firm previously responsible for Holden Special Vehicles.

It means the GMC Yukon – as with the Chevrolet Silverado pick-ups from the US – will be sold in Australia with full factory backing via GMSV dealers (most of whom are former Holden Special Vehicles dealers).

While the GMC Yukon is new to us, this is in fact the midlife facelift for the fifth generation model.

And if you think it has a striking resemblance to the Chevrolet Tahoe SUV, you’d be right.

Both are twin vehicles but with unique front and rear appearance changes, and major differences inside the cabin.

In the US, the GMC brand slots between Chevrolet and is a stepping stone to Cadillac.

Australia will initially only get one version of the GMC Yukon – the top-line Denali – which is the equivalent of a Holden Calais in local jargon.

Pricing and features for the GMC Yukon are yet to be confirmed for Australia, but GMSV dealers have been told to expect an RRP close to $160,000.

While order books are yet to open, GMSV dealers have begun taking “expressions of interest” from customers ahead of the first Australian deliveries early in 2025.

Although there is a choice of engines in the US, Australia will get only the 6.2-litre V8 petrol version (the same engine used in the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 sold here, to make it easier for service and parts support).

With that sort of grunt, the GMC Yukon promises to be one of the fastest full-size SUVs in the segment in Australia – compared to the Toyota LandCruiser 300 turbo diesel V6 and current Nissan Patrol V8 petrol (due to be replaced by a turbo V6 petrol when the new model arrives in a couple of years).

EFTM has previously reported that GMSV tested an early right-hand-drive version of the GMC Yukon inside the former Holden proving ground at Lang Lang on the south-east outskirts of Melbourne.

The vehicle was partially camouflaged at the time because the updated model was yet to be unveiled in the US.
