Tesla opens 100th Supercharger and outlines plans for more

Working for Elon Musk must be a wild ride, never knowing which way your pointing – but for the Supercharger team there appears some light on the horizon with the 100th Supercharger location opening in Australia and a further 17 coming in the next 15 months.

Just four months ago we were reporting on job losses in the Tesla Supercharger team, with evidence their roll out was stopping. Fast forward to today and we can reveal that the very location we know had been halted is now on the list to open in 2024/25.

EFTM understands that superchargers a certain way through the design, engineering and approval were given the go-ahead to continue, so it’s really now all eyes on 2026, but that’s too far away to even be worried about right now.

This week it’s about the celebrations of an Aussie Milestone, the company’s 100th Supercharger which is located down in Glenelg in South Australia.

It’s been Ten years since the first Supercharger in Australia, in that time many have come and some have gone, but there’s absolutely no questioning the reliability and speed of the Tesla charging network.

The 100th site is just one milestone, there are also now over 600 physical charging posts in Australia. Only Evie networks would come close to that, they have more than double the number of sites of Tesla, but my estimate would put their actual charger count at 500 or below.

“We are dedicated to investing in our Supercharger network to provide a charging experience that fits in with Australian lifestyles. Our goal is to make range anxiety a thing of the past by providing convenient, fast, and reliable charging both close to home and on the road and allowing more people to experience the benefits of EV ownership today.” – Thom Drew, Country Director Tesla Australia & New Zealand

Importantly, some of the Tesla locations are also open to Non Tesla owners. Charging a premium for the electricity, it opens up more options to EV owners on the major highways, but it is a limited set at this stage.

Some recent Tesla Supercharger openings include:

  • Hay, New South Wales
  • Yandina, Queensland
  • South Melbourne, Victoria
  • Chatswood, New South Wales
  • Dee Why, New South Wales
  • Port Campbell, Victoria
  • Bright, Victoria
  • Glenelg, South Australia

While there’s a decent list of Superchargers opening across 2024/25:

  • Alexandria, New South Wales
  • Armidale, New South Wales
  • Bankstown, New South Wales
  • Bordertown, South Australia
  • Cairns, Queensland
  • Gosford, New South Wales
  • Mackay, Queensland
  • Moonee Beach, New South Wales
  • Morang, Victoria
  • Narrabri, New South Wales
  • Parkes, New South Wales
  • Port Augusta, South Australia
  • Port Campbell, Victoria
  • Sunshine Coast, Queensland
  • Townsville, Queensland
  • Traralgon, Victoria
  • Waterloo, New South Wales
