All new Mac Mini – like a mini Mac Studio – launched with M4 and new M4 Pro option

A big week for Apple, following up yesterday’s news of a new iMac with an all-new Mac Mini with their latest M4 Apple Silicon and it’s not just powerful, it’s cute 🙂

Gotta say, it’s like the Mac Studio entered the set of “Honey I Shrunk the Kids” with it’s scaled back sizing really taking on the characteristics of the Pro model of the Mac lineup.

Measuring just 12.7 cm wide and deep, it’s less than half the size of the previous generation – about time too, the Mac Mini has had broadly the same design for some 14 years now!

Packing the M4 Apple Silicon you’ll get 1.8x faster CPU and 2.2x faster GPU over the M1 Mac Mini model, but Apple wasn’t slowing down there – when I was discussing the new Mac Mini with them, they also announced the new M4 Pro chip for even greater performance levels.

In M4 mode this features three USB-C ports on the back, and two on the front.

Opt for the M4 Pro model. and those ports become Thunderbolt 5 capable for staggering transfer speeds.

Thanks to the M4 chip, the new Mac Mini is also Apple Intelligence ready when that launches here, so writing tools, image tools and enhanced Siri are all good to go.

The whole device is carbon neutral too, making it the first Mac to achieve that milestone – a core tenant of Apple’s philosophy.

An all new M4 Pro chip has a 2x faster Neural Engine, and faster GPU performance too.

There’s also support for up to 64GB of unified memory and 273GB/s of memory bandwidth. Interestingly, Apple notes clearly that this is twice as much bandwidth as any AI PC chip which should lead to faster AI response times.

Prices stay the same too, starting at 9 with M4, or
