DJI Mic Mini – A content creators dream! It’s MINI!

This world of wireless microphones is really hotting up. As TikTok and Instagram content creators grow the need for better production values also grows and while we’ve seen plenty of wireless microphones the new DJI Mic Mini might be the simplest and smallest of them all.

For $245 you get the carry case which doubles as a charging dock, one receiver that plugs directly into your USB-C phone (A lightning version is also available at extra cost) and two small mini microphones.

The mics still come with a clip, and a magnet so you can conceal them easily under your shirt or jacket too.

There’s a step down from the DJI Mic 2 here, no option for a lapel input but frankly that’s exactly where this sits in the market. These will be held, clipped and hidden by various creators in their own special ways.

For just $125 you can get just a single microphone and the receiver which is wild value in my view.

Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI. “Content creators can count on capturing remarkably dynamic, crystal-clear sound, no matter the environment, and will enjoy the wearability and utility of DJI Mic Mini. DJI continues to serve the wide audience of creators with the highest level of innovative tools, from providing filmmakers with Emmy-winning Inspire drone technology and the Ronin cinematography ecosystem to today’s launch, bringing premium audio capture to all levels of content creators.”

The microphone weighs just 10 grams! Clip that on a t-shirt it will barely make a ripple! Clip it to a lanyard at an event people won’t even notice it.

In my testing the advantage here is voice clarity, cutting out the ambience of the world around you while still retaining a sense of the environment you’re in.

There is automatic volume limiters, but here’s the real genius – on the receiver there’s a simple twist dial to add and remove gain. Honestly, I wish that was on all receivers, pro level or otherwise – screen based and button based gain controls can be hard to find in a hurry.

Range is up to 400m in the right conditions, and you can split the two microphones to separate left and right audio tracks for discreet audio recording.

I think the points go to DJI on this one – the battle is strong with Rode, we’ll see what comes next!
