Belkin sent us a selection of their new chargers to test, and we thought we’d show off our two favourites: the BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank and the Convertible Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand.
These chargers are primarily designed for iPhones with their Qi2/Magsafe capabilities but they can be used with any Qi-compatible phone. The magnetic portion of the Qi2 specs is only possible if you have a compatible phone (of which there are none on the Australian market of an Android variety) or a Qi2-compatible case (of which there are plenty on the local online stores and overseas sellers).
There are many Qi2/MagSafe compatible cases for Android smartphones on the market, and I was able to test out the chargers on the Pixel 9 and the iPhone 16 Pro.
There’s so much in the name of the product and it is the same for all Belkin charger products – they all sound so similar that you need to include every word in the title to know which charger they are referring to.
This one is probably my favourite charger because power banks are a dime a dozen, but having to plug them into your phone to use them can make them unwieldy when you are on the go, out and about.
The Magnetic Power Bank with Qi2 helps you forgo all this inconvenience with a relatively small charger/block that uses the Qi2 capabilities to attach to the back of your MagSafe or Qi2-compatible case or phone.
As you may have gathered from the name, the power bank can charge your phone wirelessly at 15W (assuming your phone supports that rate), which is fast for standard wireless charging (OPPO and some others have faster wireless charging but for those speeds, you need their charger and their phone – as does the Pixel 9 Pro).
Testing charging speeds with it on the iPhone 16 Pro were okay but not overly impressive, but then it is wireless charging which is never as fast as wired charging. In one hour of having the power bank attached to the back of the phone, it charged from 5% up to 47%.
If you are using a power bank it is most likely to be because you need to charge your phone on the go. Thus this slightly slower charging is acceptable, it is unlikely you will need the phone charged to the full 100%.
I will say this, though: Be careful using the charger with your phone in your pocket—it does create a fair bit of heat.
The power bank does come in sizes of 5,000, 8,000 and 10,000 mAh and given most batteries are around 4,000mAh batteries you should be able to charge your smartphone twice with the charger we were sent (8K) but I dare say most will only ever need the 5K version.
One of the best things about this charger is that you can use the built-in kickstand on it to sit the phone up and use it while it is charging – on a plane or on a table at the coffee shop maybe? A great addition, simple but useful.
Also called a long, descriptive name, the Convertible Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand also arrives with Qi2 15W support. The stand is a great charging device and I love it for its versatility.
Some companies have released charging stands but they work best with their own brands of phones. This one from Belkin is fully adjustable, allowing you to raise or lower the charging mat, and angle it to the angle you want so you can see it clearly or you can have it totally flat should you have a phone without Qi2 or MagSafe support.
I was able to angle it so that I could charge my Pixel 9 Pro while it was standing up on the desk, leaning against the pad. Not something I would suggest for a long-term solution but certainly possible until your MagSafe case arrives.
The charging speeds for this charger were faster, and that was with the iPhone 16 Pro Nightstand Mode on (the test with the power bank was with the display off). In just half an hour the iPhone 16 Pro charged from 7% to 45% and around 70% in an hour.
The Convertible Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand comes with a 20W wall charger included so if you want slightly faster speeds you can just plug that straight into your USB-C compatible phone, instead of the charging stand.
These two chargers have both become staples in my charging regime, daily and will remain so for the foreseeable future. If you are looking for a good quality charger, with proven safety and a two-year warranty and CEW of up to $2,500 then you should be looking at these.
The BoostCharge Pro Convertible Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand with Qi2 15W is available in black and white colours for RRP $99.95.
The BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank with Qi2 15W 8K is also available in black and white colours and sizes 5,000mAh, 8,000mAh and 10,000mAh for RRP $99.95, $109.95 and $129.95 respectively.
