CES 2025: SolidddVision smartglasses are a game changing innovation that will make a difference to so many

We have seen many companies announce and release smart glasses but how many of them are truly useful, improving lives?  At CES 2025 there is a company unveiling smart glasses that could well be a game changer for many people, those with macular degeneration.

US company Soliddd has unveiled its SolidddVision smartglasses, which provide true vision correction and sight restoration for those with vision loss due to macular degeneration. Macular degeneration is “retinal degeneration characterised by gradual deterioration of light-sensing cells in the tissues at the back of the eye” and is the main cause of central blindness among the working-age population.

At CES 2025 Soliddd is unveiling the first beta product of its smartglasses.  The glasses use “unique optics and software to beam many separate, in-focus views in a parallel-ray light field to all areas of the retina.”  The brain then constructs a single, stereo, full-field image from this light field.  Even if the user’s visual field is blocked or unfocused, redundant information from other areas of the retina combine to present a full-field, well-focused, bright image.

“Soliddd has invented the first true vision correction for macular degeneration. We can provide sight in areas of the visual field where patients otherwise see nothing,” said Neal Weinstock, CEO and founder, Soliddd. “SolidddVision smartglasses are lightweight and easily integrated into daily life. Our team is mission-driven to help restore and improve sight to the millions of consumers worldwide with vision loss caused by macular degeneration.”

Physicians, scientists, ophthalmologists, retinologists, and optometrists have also supported the SoliddVision glasses, making them a solid solution for those with macular degeneration.

One alpha tester stated:

Since the age of 19, I’ve lived with a black, empty smudge in the centre of my vision with central cone dystrophy. When I tried the SolidddVision technology, for the first time in almost 30 years, that smudge disappeared and was replaced by any actual image. This opened my mind to all the possibilities of this technology to change a life. Simple human experiences most people take for granted could become extraordinary for me. Instead of only being present at my daughter’s drama performance, I could actually see her. To enjoy a cup of coffee with a friend and see her face as we talk. To watch my son’s excitement as he tells me about his day. To actually see facial expressions and emotions and not have to guess.”

Hopefully this innovative product will continue in its development and will be available to those vision-impaired people in the near future.  Now this is a technological innovation that is truly life-changing, life-altering and life-improving for so many people.
