After building their mobile brand last year with some great devices, HMD (Human Mobile Devices) switched it up at CES announcing their satellite enabled dongle, the OffGrid, which is now available in Australia.
Priced at $329 AUD, the OffGrid uses L Band satellite radio spectrum to connect to satellites, offering connectivity for Android and iOS using the OffGrid app. The app offers ‘a seamless interface for managing messages, location sharing and SOS features’.
The app lets you enable two-way messaging and live location tracking for up to five people, and you can also check-in easily with a pre-configured message with just the click of a button.
Weighing in at just 60 grams, the HMD OffGrid can fit easily in the palm of your hand, or more conveniently slips into a backpack or pocket and still offers up a three-day battery life. Despite the small size, the HMD OffGrid is tough, sporting Mil-Spec (MIL-STD-810H) durability to survive drops, extreme temperatures and more.
Connecting to you to the satellites is just the start, with the HMD OffGrid including Overwatch x Rescue, a premium SOS service by FocusPoint International. The service includes ‘24/7 multi-lingual emergency response coordination and fully funded assistance for customers that live, work, and play off the grid’.
Along with the HMD OffGrid, you will need a plan with two flexible plans available, tailored to your level of adventure and budget:
Jean-Francis Baril, Co-founder, Chairman and CEO, at Human Mobile Devices, said:
“HMD OffGrid is a new, affordable, portable and easy-to-use offering that’s both empowering and reliable – especially when it matters the most. We’re proud to continue innovating products that prioritise human connection whilst still allowing people to switch-off. So, whether you’re hiking in the mountains or skiing off-piste, HMD OffGrid ensures you’re never truly off grid.”
The HMD OffGrid is now available in Australia exclusively through Amazon or you can check it out on the HMD Australia website.
