Meta’s latest smart glasses collaboration with Oakley – Australian pricing and availability

Meta has announced the next generation of their smart glasses in a new collaboration with Oakley to take their Sunglass based AI Voice and Camera technology to a whole new audience.

This all comes about through Meta’s partnership with Luxottica, the company that owns both the Ray-Ban and Oakley brands.

Ray Ban is known for style, with Oakley capturing a sport and culture market so this expansion takes the Meta glasses technology to an audience beyond the millions already sold.

To make this work, Oakley will lean into their athlete partnerships with French footballer Kylian Mbappé and Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes leading the marketing campaign globally.

As well as an entirely new look to the Oakley Meta glasses compared to the Ray Ban Meta glasses, there’s also some tech improvements too.

The Oakley Meta HSTN (pronounced “HOW-stuhn”) will have an eight hour battery life in normal use, with 19 hours on standby. They’ll take 50% charge in just 20 minutes with a 48 hour charge built into the glasses case.

Cameras on the Oakley Meta smart glasses are also higher resolution with 3K video recording.

As with the Ray Ban Meta’s, the AI capabilities are likely some of the real stand out features. Asking “Meta” via your glasses what the weather is, what the time is or to play some music.

You can also read out messages, with great integration with WhatsApp, live stream from the glasses on Instagram.

At the most basic functionality you ask Meta to take videos or take photos.

Personally, the Ray Ban Meta glasses are among my most favoured pieces of technology. That fans of the Oakley design will now get access to this technology is exciting.

Some of the Oakley Meta HTSN glasses will have Oakley’s PRIZM lens technology, with others featuring clear or transition lenses.

The five frame and lens combinations make for the following range:

  • Oakley Meta HSTN Warm Grey with PRIZM™ Ruby Lenses
  • Oakley Meta HSTN Black with PRIZM™ Polar Black Lenses
  • Oakley Meta HSTN Brown Smoke with PRIZM™ Polar Deep Water Lenses
  • Oakley Meta HSTN Black with Transitions Amethyst Lenses
  • Oakley Meta HSTN Clear with Transitions Grey Lenses
  • Oakley Meta HSTN Black with Clear Lenses

A limited edition paying homage to the 50 years of Oakley design will feature gold accents and gold 24K PRIZM polar lenses.

Alex Himel, VP of Wearables at Meta says “Glasses have emerged as the ideal tool for people to listen to music, capture videos, and get the help of a powerful AI assistant,” said Alex Himel, VP of Wearables at Meta. “We’re proud of the success of Ray-Ban Meta glasses and excited to now expand our work with Oakley, the most iconic eyewear brand in sports innovation. Our teams have been working together for years to understand the unique needs of athletes, and we can’t wait to deliver new experiences that integrate into their everyday life, both on and off the field.”

Caio Amato, Global President of Oakley says “For 50 years, we’ve been pushing the boundaries of what is possible, obsessed with solving unsolved problems,” said Caio Amato, Global President of Oakley. “Together with Meta we are setting new bounds of reality – It is not only about pushing forward performance, but also about amplifying human potential as never before. And this is just the first chapter of a new era for sports.”

Australian Pricing for the Oakley Meta HTSN smart glasses
