Samsung’s all-rounder the Smart Monitor goes OLED with the stunning new M9 model available now

Several years ago Samsung’s M7 and M8 Smart Monitors hit the market and were instantly impressive. The combination of a monitor along with the software and apps of a Smart TV made it a fantastic all-in-one solution for many situations. Today there’s a new M in town, the M9 and she’s the Julia Roberts after a few days in Pretty Woman kinda deal.

This thing is stunning. Mainly thanks to the OLED screen, which is Samsung’s QD-OLED technology from their TV range. A demonstration of their TV and Monitor business working hand in hand to offer features and quality to customers, the Tizen TV operating system on the Samsung Smart Monitor M9 means you get all your favourite streaming apps, as well as the screen sharing, basic monitor and smart monitor functionality.

Neal Elliott from Samsung Electronics Australia says “The Smart Monitor series continues to evolve to meet the needs of Australian consumers who are looking for premium monitor experiences that provide the best outcomes whether they are using it for work, entertainment or gaming,”

“In pairing the best of Samsung’s QD-OLED display technology with the latest Samsung Vision AI features, the Smart Monitor M9 delivers a personalised experience with high picture quality and endless entertainment features, enabling Australians to work, watch and play in style, all within a single, versatile display.”

I was lucky enough to spend some time using the new M9 at Samsung’s Aussie HQ and while I told myself on the way there I’d use the time to get some work done, in fact I launched the XBox cloud gaming and started playing Far Cry 6 and it was impressive, fast, slick and stunning to look at.

Of course, as a Monitor the fact you can play Xbox on it without an Xbox is completely insane to me, but it’s real.

As your daily workstation though, this has Samsung’s Glare Free technology so if you’re working near windows – no distraction,

You can plug in your Samsung smartphone for full Dex desktop capabilities right from your phone – no PC needed, or just plug in your Laptop.

There’s wireless connectivity options too.

Unlike the Previous models the Webcam is built into the display with the M9 offering easy connection to your Zoom meetings.

But, connect a PC for gaming time and you can get 165Hz refresh rate and 0.03ms GtG response time.

There’s just one catch – it’s a step up in price.

$2,499 for the M9 in 32 inches, while the M7 and M8 range from $699 to $999 in 32, and the M7 is $849 in 43 inch.

If you can stretch it, the M9 is a stunning addition to any home workspace.
