Here’s a once in a lifetime opportunity. Name a car and get to take possession of the first model.
Chery Australia is asking the public to name their new vehicle and the successful entry gets to take the first one home with them. Entries are now open for one lucky Aussie to name Chery’s world-first plug-in hybrid diesel ute.
The Chery <insert your winning name here> is billed as the “world’s first plug-in hybrid diesel ute, combining traditional diesel capability with electrified efficiency, with a 1000kg payload and 3.5 tonne towing capacity” and is set to launch towards the end of 2026 after a shortlist of the best names are put to the public for a final vote.
Before we go any further, let’s get it out of our systems. Uty McUteface isn’t going to cut the mustard.
There has already been some keen interest and Chery report that they have received almost 5,000 entries since the campaign was launched on 12 March.
The Tugga, Buddy, Aloisi or Boony may have been on the shortlist for a certain similar vehicle recently when it came to name a ute with a moniker synonymous with everything Australian, but the difference this time is Chery say they are “handing the final stage of its launch over to the people it was built for – allowing the everyday Aussie to help name the new model”
Whilst we at EFTM are proud to live by our motto of 100% Human I couldn’t resist asking AI to come up with a few suggestions. All of which are very ordinary so feel free to use any (or all) because none of them have any chance of winning

“Utes aren’t just a vehicle in Australia, they’re a vital part of how we work and play. By introducing the world’s first plug-in hybrid diesel ute, we’re redefining what capability looks like for the segment. Our technology delivers the torque, towing, and long-distance range Australian’s demand, whether for work or recreation, while significantly reducing fuel use and emissions.” Says Lucas Harris, Chery Australia Chief Operating Officer.
