Lloyds Auctions has announced it has acquired the rights to sell one of Australia’s biggest private collections of Lego
Over 2,000 sets comprising of more than one million pieces will go under the hammer starting 20th April.
Many auction lots are retired sets which are those that the company has officially stopped producing and will no longer restock. It is estimated that about two thirds fall into this category. Many sets are still unopened in their boxes and factory sealed.
The jewel in the crown is no doubt the Star Wars UCS Star Destroyer which is expected to fetch tens of thousands of dollars but as these auctions are “No reserve” you may just jag yourself a bargain
It’s not only Star Wars Lego sets going under the hammer. The collector was also heavily into Batman, Harry Potter, Marvel, Disney and Racers so the auction should have broad appeal for any collector. Other pieces expected to be very popular are The Simpsons House, Kwik‑E‑Mart and Queen Anne’s Revenge pirate ship.
“This is the largest single LEGO collection we’ve ever brought to auction,” said Lee Hames, Chief Operations Officer at Lloyds Auctions. “The sheer scale is remarkable, but what really sets it apart is the concentration of sealed, retired and highly sought‑after sets. You simply don’t see collections of this calibre come to market.”
The collection up for auction is so big that the sale will extend over 7 daily auction periods starting on 20th April (maybe they should have waited til May 4th – IYKYK) and it is estimated the entire collection may go for a total figure in excess of $250k.
Bidding has already started so log into Lloyds auctions to check out the pieces and bid for your favourite item.
