The spectacular failure of the first generation of Android tablets has just started to fade from memory, and the next generation of affordable Android tablets is beginning to land. Naturally, Aussie company Kogan has jumped on board nice and early.
Kogan has announced its new 10-inch tablet running the latest version of Android, known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Available with either 8GB or 16GB of on-board storage and selling for $179 and $199 respectively, the Agora 10-inch tablet features a thin, lightweight design, 2-megapixel camera and an HDMI port for connecting to your TV. The limited on-board storage is expandable via MicroSD card, and the display – while nowhere near the level of the new iPad in terms of resolution – still manages a 1024 x 768 display.
The 1.2GHz processor won’t compete with the high end processors on the market these days, but it’s no slouch, and the claimed eight hour battery life should be enough to get you through the better part of a day.
Like most new Kogan products, the tablets are available for pre-order now, with devices expected to ship towards the end of June. If you’ve been hankering for a cheap Android tablet, this looks like it might be a winner. We’ll get our hands on one and let you know what we think.
