The new A&E channel on Foxtel and Austar has been a huge success, with shows like Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, American Pickers and more. One recent addition to the lineup has been “Full Metal Jousting”, and if you love that, you’ll love the Abbey Medieval Festival.
Located on the road out to Bribie Island, north of Brisbane, the festival is run in the grounds around the Abbey Museum and features a full weekend of Medieval activities.
Each day begins with the Grand Parade, the opening ceremony tournament where more than 500 knights, warriors, ladies and their retainers present themselves to the crowd before being called to take part in chivalrous combat for honour and courage. It all sounds like classic fun.
It’s a real family event, so if you’re looking for something fun to do on the weekend of the 7th and 8th of July, a trip to Brisbane, or for those in QLD a trip to Caboolture will end up with smiles all round.
Personally, I’d love to see a bit of Jousting live – I’m sure A & E’s show plays it up for the screens, but surely horses and men pelting toward each other at pace can only end in disastrous fun.
Oh, and if you’ve got kids in the area on July 3, there’s a whole day of activities to keep them happy at the Kids Medieval Fun Day.
Price: Day passes to the Tournament are $24 for adults and $11 for kids.
Where: Abbey Museum Caboolture
When: July 7-8
