UPDATED: Toyota will release the brand new version of its super successful Corolla in Australia next week, having sold more than 39 million around the world to date. The car will be shown at the Sydney International Motorshow as well.
It’s the latest iteration of the small car so popular with Australia that’s competing in a hugely competitive section and will be priced from $19,990, $1,000 cheaper than the previous model. Toyota thinks it’s stumped up with the goods to compete with the Volkswagen Golf, Hyundai i30 and Mazda 3 with the new version powered by a 1.8 litre VVTi engine.
The car looks significantly different to the current model with Toyota lauding European styling and saying that it is closely aligned to Australian buying habits. With a longer body and more aerodynamic styling, there is a little more space to be had and a little less fuel to be used. Toyota is boasting that rear leg room has improved for easier carrying of adult passengers.
Corolla has also shed some weight thanks to the use of high-tensile steel. As soon as pricing become available we’ll make sure you’re updated.
